This morning we received the biopsy results for my mom’s most recent surgery.

Unfortunately, it was not the news we wanted. She was diagnosed with a DIFFERENT lung cancer than the one she had last November, this one is a more aggressive form called Small Cell Lung Cancer. It is estimated to double in size every 30 days which is why it wasn’t clear on her July scan but did appear when she got sick in August.

We are now in the process of getting her set up to have a port placed and she will start chemotherapy within the next week or so. Everything is going to happen very quickly and I will keep you updated (at her request) as I know more.

The only “good” news that we received today is that her SCLC is considered “limited” and not “extensive” in staging because it has not spread outside of her lung. The key is to get the chemo started immediately to try and reduce the cell size and prevent further spreading.

My mom wants me to share this information with you BUT I have turned her phone on do not disturb because she is quite overwhelmed. You can share words of love here and she will get them when the DND gets switched off.
